Trumpet Inc., the makers of Symphony OCR, recently announced some new capabilities for Symphony OCR.

OCR Processing for PDF files as email attachments:

First, Symphony OCR will inspect and OCR PDF attachments to emails that are profiled into Worldox.  This means that when text searches are done with Worldox, Worldox will find emails that have the words in the email attachments as well as in the email text.

To get this new capability, current Symphony OCR clients only need to download and install the most recent update for Symphony OCR.

Windows Folder Tree Support:

Second, Symphony OCR is now available for Windows folder tree environment without the need for a document management product.  Once Symphony OCR is installed on your server and configured, it will follow the folder structure it is targeted to analyze.  It will look for PDF files, inspect them to see if they need to be OCRed, and then schedule the files to be OCRed.  Any new PDF files added to the file structure will be analyzed and OCRed if needed.  By installing Symphony OCR on your server, you can now be assured that all PDF files can be text searched and edited by other applications that manage PDF files.

This is important for our PracticeMaster clients that attach PDF files to the matter on the document management tab and want to be able to search those PDF files with PracticeMaster’s text search features.
